Dendrobium crumenatum
Orchid
Dendrobium crumenatum, commonly called pigeon orchid, or 木石斛 (mu shi hu) is an epiphytic orchid in the family Orchidaceae and is native to Asia, Southeast Asia, New Guinea and Christmas Island. It has two rows of leaves along its pseudobulb and relatively large but short-lived, strongly scented white flowers. It usually grows in exposed positions in lowland rainforest and coastal scrub.
Flamboyant
Delonix regia (Bojer ex Hook.) Raf.
Legume family
Royal poinciana (Delonix regia (Bojer ex Hook.) Raf.), also called flamboyant, flame tree or flame of the forest, is a leguminous tree in the family Fabaceae, grown for its broad umbrella canopy and spectacular masses of scarlet-orange flowers in summer; in Vietnam it is the familiar “schoolboy flower” that shades schoolyards. According to Kew POWO it is native to Madagascar and widely cultivated throughout the tropics and subtropics. It has bipinnate leaves and five-petalled flowers with a larger standard petal streaked white and yellow; its tissues contain flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol, rhamnetin, isorhamnetin), anthocyanins, tannins, sterols and a seed galactomannan gum.
Rose
Rosa chinensis Jacq.
Rose family
The rose (genus Rosa, family Rosaceae) is a group of perennial thorny shrubs and the world's most popular cut flower and ornamental garden plant, a symbol of love. This entry takes Rosa chinensis Jacq. (the China rose) as its representative — a species native to south-west China and an important ancestor of modern roses because of its repeat-flowering habit. The petals are distilled into a precious oil (rose otto/absolute) rich in citronellol and geraniol; the hips are rich in vitamin C; and the petals and buds are also used in tea, preserves and spices.
